This weekend we went down to Buena Vista to celebrate Max & Suzy's wedding with a weekend of rafting and pig roasting. This was Ryan's first camping trip, and boy, was it a learning experience!
We learned:
1) You can fit a surprising amount of crap (and even some camping gear) in a Honda CR-V.
2) Inflatable air beds sound good in theory, but do not compare to real beds - particularly when you add a third occupant and fail to inflate them properly.
3) Colorado has amazing scenery, but the temperature extremes (40 degrees at night, 90+during the day) were a challenge for the little guy (and big mama).
4) Ryan loves riding in his Kelty backpack.
5) It's not roughing it as long as you have rice rusks.
6) Daddy is a handsome wilderness man.
7) Naps come first, even if you're trying to tear camp down at that time:
We'll definitely take more family camping trips in the near future, but there will most likely be some kind of pop-up trailer/5th wheel camper/RV type vehicle involved (I spent a lot of time loitering around the McGraths' luxurious ride - they had a shower! and running water! and a flush toilet! and a TV!).
