Sew Happy

Last weekend Sommer and I decided to be extremely crafty and sew our own cloth inserts for the g diapers. Yes, I do actually own a sewing machine (thanks, Mom!) and I almost know how to use it. I figured my sewing skills were sufficient to create something the child is going to poop on...

When they weren't "helping" us sew, the kids hung out on a blanket nearby. Kenz is perfecting her Kung Fu chop.

Practice makes perfect, and this video shows her well on her way to earning a black belt. Being the gracious gentleman that he is, Ryan doesn't resist:

Sam attempted to broker a peace deal by reading Dr. Seuss, but Kenz says, "Are you kidding? Like that bird really thinks a bulldozer is his mother!" Ryan is just looking for something else to put in his mouth.

Ali (another g baby) and her mom Lyndsay came over to see what all the hubbub was about.

Sam escaped to the basement to assemble an electric race track our nanny passed down to us. Obviously Ryan is a little young to play with it... but Sam's not!

On Saturday night we had dinner with Paul and Beth Wedlake and their adorable children.

Sophia lovin' on Ryan (he gets that a lot from the ladies!)

Happy Easter Weekend

We had a big weekend with a long list of firsts. On Friday afternoon, we loaded Ryan into the Snugli in the backpack position to take Casey to play ball. He enjoyed chewing on the strap:

On Saturday, even though it was overcast, I decided to get out and pull some weeds. Ryan oversaw my work to ensure I didn't miss any.

For Easter we went to services at Shepherd of the Hills, the Presbyterian church Sam grew up attending. They had a lovely bell choir, which Ryan found quite entertaining:

After church we went to Sam's parent's house for lunch (or is it supper when it takes place at 2 pm? Why are holiday meals eaten at such random hours?).

Our adventure at Lutheran Hospital was finally published in the paper. Here Ryan checks out his front-page photo (notice the budding "sitting up" skills!).

He's wearing shoes - another first!

Finally, we decided to give Ryan his first taste of "real" food (rice cereal diluted with breastmilk) later Sunday night. He thought it was pretty good!

Some of it did actually go in his mouth...

This morning (Monday) I learned that Ryan's homegirls also got a taste of cereal-y goodness:

The Baby That Ate Lakewood

Ryan has developed remarkable manual dexterity lately, and everything he gets in his hands goes straight into his mouth.

Aunt Sarah, who babysits on Thursdays, just emailed me this picture taken with her Blackberry. She suggests that Ryan is saying "What's THAT thing? I should put it in my mouth!"

So true, so true.

We're Famous!

Yesterday Ryan and I returned to Lutheran Hospital, where he was born almost four months ago, to leave our mark on a metal I-beam that will be placed in a new addition to the hospital currently under construction.
The Denver Post was there to capture the event:

And an article on http://www.denver.yourhub.com/ featuring photos of Ryan and Mommy and Sommer and Mackenzie.
