Snow Much Fun

Oh, these Colorado boys!  When we woke up to three inches of snow and a blizzard in progress, all I wanted to do was stay in our PJs and play all day.  The children, of course, had other plans!

It all started when we noticed how many birds were at our bird feeder, quickly emptying the seeds.  Then our resident squirrel arrived, seeking shelter from the wind but also just delighting in running off the birds.

We had a heel piece of bread leftover from our breakfast toast, so Sam let the boys take it out to Mr. Squirrel while he refilled our other bird feeder (not shown in this photo).
I thought for sure once Ryan felt how cold it was outside we would retreat to the basement and resume our train layout building (and destroying - thanks, Jackers).

Oh, how wrong I was!  It doesn't help that Sam is not much of a relaxer - he's got to be working on something, so he decided he was going to shovel the driveway, and the boys got excited to go out with him.

John Deere Earth Mover Action features a significant amount of snowplows, so Ryan and Jack were anxious to take out their Hot Wheels snowplow (among other diggers, dump trucks, gators, etc.) and make a contribution to Dad's snow shoveling efforts.
It was cold, windy, and otherwise blizzard-y but these boys were not going to be deterred!

I think there may be a few vehicles that are currently snug in a snowy bed and won't be found until the snow melts! Meanwhile, I had the "Sounds of Aloha" channel playing on Pandora.

Photo of the Day - Farmer's Market

I pulled out some styrofoam fruits and vegetables my sister handed down to us and Ryan went crazy.

He's obviously going the local, organic and artisanal route because he told me everything costs $20 (each, not total!).

Photo of the Day - Sink or Float?

A little science experimenting.
With safety [ski] goggles, of course.
Which then turned into a really random family portrait...
...and finally dissolved into "If you give a 4 year old a pair of ski goggles..."

...he'll want his puffy jacket and snow boots...
...and then demand to wear Mom's ski boots...
...and her helmet...
...and attempt to walk in ski boots (hard enough to do when they're the proper size!)...
...and collapse on the floor giggling.
[with apologies to Laura Numeroff]

2nd Photo of the Day - Boys!

With friends Sebastian and David watching a model train at the mall.

Andrew joined the slack-jawed awe.

(In French the idiom for window shopping is "lecher les vitrines", literally, lick the window.)

Jack wants so badly to participate in the gymnastics class that Ryan protests against so strongly.
