Sam's dad serves on the board of Hands of the Carpenter, a local non-profit group that provides car maintenance and repair to low-income women. The organization hosted a fundraising bowl-a-thon, so we headed to the AMF Lanes to have "new adventures", as Ryan puts it.
Of course none of us thought to bring our cameras, so these photos were taken with Sam's phone.
The boys certainly did not know what to expect, and once there had a hard time processing everything that was going on - loud music! bangs and crashes! balls and more balls! chocolate chip cookies!
Fortunately, there were lots of snuggly adults to go around:

Our lane had bumpers to prevent gutter balls, and a ramp for the kids to use to push the ball down the lane. Ryan was pretty impressed with the hand dryer.
He took his time picking out the perfect ball, then attempted to carry it to the lane. With help, he gave it a big push off the ramp and watched it head toward the pins.

Jack even got to take a few turns, and he loved it. At different
times the boys even had a higher score than their grandma and their aunt (but
not Mama, who grew up in going bowling as the default social
activity... and who won the first game).
